E-commerce web design trends have come a long way.  Just like responsive web design, your e-commerce website must evolve and below are a few pointers.

1. Clean and minimal web content:
Most of the ecommerce websites today have bright colors and minimal elements.  They have less cluter, most of the items are in plain text, this goes a long way to ensure that the users are not distracted.  Dark colors have disappeared from modern e-commerce websites and refreshing pallets are now more visible.

Due to the influx of touch screen decives such as iphones, ipads and other mobile devices, there is a tendancy to have websites with a horizontal scroll bar, this makes it easier to navigate on the website as well as making it user friendly.  Be sure your design is responsive.

3. Big images and video clips:
The incorporation of big images, banners and video clips on websites as well as big fonts is the “in” thing now.   The use of small little tiny thumbnails is outdated and most of the text are in bold reinforced with big fonts to give the user a good impression.  Big size images ensure that users can remember your brand.  It’s important to ensure you use the correct pixel combination to avoid slowing down your website when the images are loading.

Modern e-commerce sites use very creative design techniques, with elements laid out on the website including multi column, footnotes and picture galleries all crafted together to make the site look stylish and modern.  This design ensures that the page is not overloaded with unnecessary items, therefore enhancing effective communication.  This style is also known as the art directed design.

5. High resolution images:
Most of the images, buttons, uploaded on a website design, have a high resolution that makes them look great on mobile devices and tablets.

6. Social media integration:
Most of the modern e-commerce sites incorporate Facebook, Twitter among other social media websites on their design, this makes it easier to interact between the two platforms.
